In this page I will be discussing any and all events that happen in the manga, and possible some bits and pieces of the anime, too, since it is generally such a close adaptation of the manga. Read the manga first if you want to, or if you can not be bothered, just read my reviews/summaries.
Such a melancholic manga. It just feels downbeat and kind of sad. But I also really enjoy the hell out of it. I feel like it serves as a great introduction to much of the rest of the manga, and honestly, I am quite exited to see where this ends up going. The art style is so lovely and serene, it just puts me at ease. It calms my soul. I absolutely love it.

I had forgotten how slow and sad this story was. It beautifully illustrates pictures of melancholia in my brain, and I can not help but wish to read on, and observe what further twists and turns this story takes. I reallt fuck with the way depression is expressed in this work and story, and how it shows how "easy" (it's incredibly fucking hard and painful to do in real life, and requires more support than you could imagine if you do not have experience with severe, long lasting depressive episodes.) it is to somewhat start to break out of the negative spiral of depression. All it takes sometimes is someone lending tou a hand and saying: "hey, let's do something together" and then when you decline, they insist on it. This has happened a handful times in my life, too, and God, how thankful I am to everyone in my life who has helped me in such meaningful fashions. All I wish to do is pass it on in the future.

I like the slow, hut sure, change from having become aimless in life to having a goal, no matter how hard to reach, or seemingly unattainable it is. I like how he confronts himself and does not justify his bitchy actions with his depression. I like how he grows snd becomes stronger as a person, not because of his depression, but despite it. I really fuck with the portrayal of mental health issues in this story so far.

I liked where the story went, showing how when you are feeling like absolute ass, taking care of someone else can help you, too. How seeing that someone else relies on you can make you feel more certain of yourself. I also like that slowly bit surely the relationship between rei and his sister gets revealed. I like seeing glimpses into this character that feels so Damm realistic.

I love how the story doesn't shy away from showing some of the harsher truth about bullying at school. I also love how tied together the storylines appear to be. How everyone seems to be supporting one another, causing an upward spiral for everyone. It is really wholesome if you ask me.

I enjoyed the reference to bullying getting to the point of victims committing suicide. It is a really hard truth that we as a society shy away from acknowledging as much as we should, I think. I love how kiriyama's introspective becomes better and better throughout the chapters, and i am so incredibly in love with the art style of this series. It feels so damn melancholic.

The sadness/happy tears when feeling happy/supposed to feel happy are sp relatable. Damn. That cliffhanger. I just want to keep writing. I enjoyed how the bullying arc was handled and drawn to a conclusion. I do not think I could have improved on that at all. It felt realistic and just properly written. I love how the support she received from everyone was what helped her pull through, and how kiriyama still had self doubt and the feeling of not being enough and not doing enough even though he was a massive fuckinf help.

Damn. The battle was quite intense to read, it took my emotions like a storm I just wanted to keep reading and reading and reading some more. The portrayal of trauma is nicely done, too. I really adore this series for its persistent realism. It's not shying away from the darker truths much at all.
I really like how souya is just so cold and quiet, and kind of like a lonelier kiriyama. It is a really interesting comparison. I wonder if he will turn out like souya in the later chapters.
