Bonnefis aforisms
I found an old collection of yet older aforisms in a thrift store, so I decided to pick it up and compile my favorite aforisms from a collection of aforisms.

"Where the pessimist fears dying, the optimist fears death."
"A good friend is someone who knows you and wants to remain your friend"
"Don't these quotes appear quite pointless? So do you."
"A servant of the police is a negative crook"
"out of honor for the church, I will stay an honorable distance from it"
"It is a comforting thought that others are so horrible"
"Sometimes it is an honor to be mocked"
"Only those who know inebriation can appriaciate sobriety to the fullest extent"
"Pension gives us the time to do what we want, when we no longer want to do anything."
"A general cannot permit himself to be intelligent."
"We are less repulsed by sins we ourselves commit than thosse others commit."
"There are good people who are a bad influence, and bad people who are a good influence on others."
"A state is a conspiracy of none against all."
"Those who built their foundations of passificm on mutual love, are really building it on quicksand."
"If we could not remain silent, we would all be in jail."
"Out of cowardice man created god, and out of cowardice man made him allmighty."
"There are intelligent idiots, and idiotic intellects."
"A polite person is someone who is pretending to be someone else."
"The most attentive listener is usually the speaker"
"Curiosity is intelligent stupidity"
"When there is nothing important to say about thedead, we praise their good deeds"
"An honest woman should not trust men"
"The now gets strangles by a longing for the past and a fear of the future"
"How lucky that brave men are often stupid"
"An example should not be given, but shown"
"even napoleon started out as an infant" (This one is relevant, because these quotes were written under Napoleons rule, over 200 years ago.)
"Life is the scenic route to death."
"When we are kids we do everything wrong, when we are adults we do nothing, and when we are old we critizise the mistakes of the youths"
"An intelligent person is only brave when there is no other way"
These quotes were originally written by Alessandro Bonnefis in the late 1700s and early 1800s, and later compiled and translated by F. J. Schmit and A. C. Niemeyer in 1966 (or MCMLXVI as this book felt the need to state it as) which were then once more translated by me today, on the 29th of October 2024. So needless to say, all the original meaning is obviously lost in translation, but these quotes felt relevant none the less.
